Students with Disabilities
Services for students with Disabilities
is a program within the Office of
Student Services in coordination with
the Office of Diversity and
International Affairs and the Student
Affairs offices of the four UTMB
schools: Medicine, Nursing, Health
Professions and Graduate School of
Biomedical Sciences.
Responsibilities of Students and Faculty
It is the student's responsibility to
identify himself/herself to either the
Coordinator of Services for Students
with Disabilities (CSSD) office, the
Student Affairs Liaison (SAL) or the ADA
Coordinator (ADAC) to request and
provide documentation of a disability.
The student will consult with a School
ADA Student Affairs Liaison (SAL) to
determine specific accommodations the
student is eligible to receive while
attending UTMB. At the beginning of each
semester, students are required to
request accommodation letters and to
meet with their instructors to discuss
arrangements for accommodations in each
course.
School of Health Professions ADA
Student Affairs Liaison
Jeff Baker, Ph.D, ABPP
Phone: 409-370-7180 email:

McCullough Building, 6.100F
Students with disabilities must maintain
the same responsibility for their
education as other students. This
includes maintaining the same academic
levels, maintaining appropriate
behavior, and giving timely notification
of any special needs. The student should
remind the instructor of any testing
accommodations well before each exam.

information please visit:

Where Do I Go?
All School Orientation Although there are orientation
sessions for specific schools and departments, the mandatory,
all-school orientation session begins on Saturday, August 22,
at 8:00 a.m. at the Galveston Island Convention Center at
The San Luis Resort (Off Campus) at 5600 Seawall Boulevard in
the Grand Ballroom.
SHP Week of
Welcome Student Orientation Begins Monday August 24 through
Friday, August 28 on Campus at The University of Texas Medical
Branch. See schedule for locations of sessions.
Where Do I Park?
STUDENT PARKING
All full-time UTMB students may purchase a Student Parking
permit for $70, which is valid from September 1 through August
31 of each year. These permits may be purchased from the
Parking Office located in room 2.206 of the Administration
Building, (409) 772-1581. These permits are valid in designated
student spaces on a first-come/first-served basis.
Pre-Registration for Parking Pass -
Students who wish to purchase a yearly parking pass FOR
2009-2010 may do so by
clicking here for the parking permit application.
Please read the information on the UTMB Auxiliary Enterprises
webpage carefully and follow directions to purchase a parking
pass. Incomplete applications may not be processed.
You must send a check or money order with the pre-registration
form to the parking office at the address listed on the website,
no later than August 10, 2009. You may pick up your pass
the week before orientation on either Thursday, August

here for full website)
Free
Shuttle Parking and Shuttle Bus -
If you choose not to pre-register for parking, and you do not
have a valid parking pass during orientation, we
also have a free parking lot and shuttle service. UTMB offers
free parking to all students, employees, patients, and visitors
from a large paved and improved lot bounded by Holiday Dr.,
Winnie St., and Seawall Blvd. Although this is a remote lot and
may not afford the same level of convenience as on-campus
parking, it contains ample space at no charge. Parking in this
lot requires no registration or identifier. (For a complete
schedule,
The shuttle is scheduled to run back and forth between the
shuttle lot & 8th, 9th, 11th,
and 13th on Market. The first departure from the
shuttle lot will be at 6 a.m., and the last departure will be at
9 a.m. The first departure from campus to the shuttle lot will
be at 3:30 p.m. from 13th & Market. The last
departure will be at 6:30 p.m. from 13th & Market.
The small shuttle bus will pick up and drop off inside the lot.
During all other times, a large city bus will run at 30-minute
intervals and pick up and drop off on Holiday Drive at the
entrance to the shuttle lot. The large bus will drop off and
pick up on 8th, 9th, 12th, & 14th
on Market. Both shuttle busses operate Monday through Friday.
The Shuttle Service does not run on UTMB holidays. There is no
charge for this service. There are security lights at this
location, but it is highly recommended that you remove your car
before dark. If that is not possible, it is recommended you call
security at (409) 772-2691 for an escort.
Dormitory and
UTMB Apartment Parking
- Students owning a vehicle and residing in the University
dormitories and apartments should register their vehicle with
the Dorm Office. Once the vehicle has been properly registered,
a dormitory parking hangtag will be issued at no charge.
Students are cautioned that the dorm hangtags are only valid in
the designated dormitory parking areas. The same policy is
applicable for the other housing facilities on campus.
Handicapped Parking
- UTMB provides designated parking spaces for those persons duly
registered and properly identified as provided by law (Texas
Transportation Code, 681, et seq.). For more information, please
call the Parking Facilities Office at (409) 772-1581
What Will Happen?
Various representatives from The University of Texas Medical Branch
will present information to help you be more successful during your
time as a student with us. Most sessions are mandatory and all
students must attend them: Safety Awareness and Hazard
Communication, Community Policing, Financial Aid, and Counseling.
However, you are strongly encouraged to attend the other scheduled
presentations.
Optional activities are offered as well. See schedule for
additional information.
