Gena Ramos, PT from Texas

online IMPRINTS NICU course

Summer 2008

My comment after finishing this section of the program is "WOW, I never knew"! It has been eye-opening for me, even after 10 years of experience with very involved children! I learned so much from these courses, that I think they should be a requirement to work in ECI...  Thank you for the detailed response on everything and for your praise!    Your class was very well laid out and presented, especially being an on-line course.

online IMPRINTS NICU course

Summer 2008

This has been the most interesting material.  Every time I am tired and don’t want to do “school”, I still find the information fascinating...   By the way, I am very impressed with the extra information you post for us to read every week or so.  It is very stimulating and represents some of the best of instructor input in the IMPRINTS coursework. Thanks.

... I also wanted to say thank you for the opportunity and the doors that you helped open for me as being a part of the imprints program. I love the work I do, and the agency with whom I work. Having advance knowledge of what I [was] coming into as an ECI therapist made it easy for me to hit the ground running ...Thanks again for your encouragement and support.

Just wanted you to know that we have hired two of your Imprints Students:  They both interviewed so well, that my bosses let me hire them both. Thanks for all of your hard work in preparing your students to enter our ECI Program, you all have done a wonderful job.

"I have a lot of faith in UTMB’s pedi training opportunities… after all the optional pedi courses, I felt pretty prepared for starting at Texas Children’s Hospital when I graduated. I have had students from other PT programs through the years and none have had the experience and opportunity we did in school with pedi."

"I work at HealthBridge Children's Hospital.  It is a 24 bed acute rehab hospital and we see patients throughout the spectrum of pediatrics.  We have babies of all developmental levels with respiratory issues, congenital defects, heart abnormalities, and neurological involvement.  We also see toddlers and children up to 20 yrs. of age who were involved in MVAs or autoped with a variety of involvement including TBI, SCI, orthopedic injuries, and other.  As the PT I am responsible for treatment plans, all equipment assessment and ordering at all stages of the process, orthotic assessment and ordering, and wound care to name a few.  I don't believe I would have felt very confident to accept this position without the IMPRINTS program and the experience with NICU as well as the hands on treatment of ECI age children.  Also the reinforcement of normal development helped to recognize the needs of this varied population."
