Description and Prerequisites Course
Description: This course is designed as an
introduction to the most salient dimensions of Community Health and
Community Health Promotion. Most basically, community health promotion
is about understanding a community, its health situation, what resources
and activities (or lack thereof) are related to that situation, and
how the situation might be changed (and health improved) by action on
the part of the community and outside experts. The material is both
conceptual and applied to: (1) provide students with the necessary basics
to be able to discuss the topic with others in the health professions,
and (2) to become familiar with resources, agencies, data, and techniques
that are involved in a wide array of community health promotion. As
such, the course aims to provide a necessary set of building blocks
for students who may at some point become involved in community health
promotion activities during their career. Prerequisites:
