Course Description and Prerequisites

Course Description: This course is designed as an introduction to the most salient dimensions of Community Health and Community Health Promotion. Most basically, community health promotion is about understanding a community, its health situation, what resources and activities (or lack thereof) are related to that situation, and how the situation might be changed (and health improved) by action on the part of the community and outside experts. The material is both conceptual and applied to: (1) provide students with the necessary basics to be able to discuss the topic with others in the health professions, and (2) to become familiar with resources, agencies, data, and techniques that are involved in a wide array of community health promotion. As such, the course aims to provide a necessary set of building blocks for students who may at some point become involved in community health promotion activities during their career.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this course.
