Endowment Title: The Physician Assistant Studies Academic Scholarship

Purpose: This Scholarship will be awarded to a student in good standing who demonstrates financial need and academic promise. Preference will be given to those students who demonstrate commitment to community and/or professional service.

Endowment Title: William Curtis Moore Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: This award was established in 1989 to honor WC Moore, an alumnus of UTMB Physical Therapy.

Criteria: 1. Must be a “non – traditional student.” Students will attach a cover sheet with name, department, and a statement describing how they meet one or more of the following criteria: • Parent of a dependent child • Pursing current program as a 2nd career • 30 years of age or older • In need of but ineligible for financial aid due to support from a spouse 2. Must be currently enrolled in an entry level program ( CLS, RC, OT, PAS, PT) and have completed at least 30 credit hours with a 3.25 GPA or higher at the SAHS (attach a copy of your UTMB transcript) 3. Must either be a member of the UFCU or be willing to join if chosen as a recipient ($6.00 fee) & agree to have a photo in the UFCU Newsletter 4. Must submit an essay entitled: “The Advantages of Being a Non-Traditional Student in a Professional Program of Study” The essay should be no more than two typed pages, double-spaced in a 12 point Times New Roman or comparable font. Your essay will be judged on content and quality.

Endowment Title: The School of Health Professions Alumni Association Endowed Fund for the School of Health Professions (Formerly: School of Allied Health Sciences)

Criteria: To be eligible for this award the student applicants must: 1. Be full time students enrolled in UTMB School of Health Professions at Galveston who have completed one year of study (minimum 13 credit hours) 2. Complete the “Application for Scholarship” 3. Have a minimum of 3.0 GPA 4. Have participated in alumni or community service activities during the previous year 5. Submit two letters of recommendation, at least one should be from an alumnus of the SHP (if possible, if not at least one from a SHP faculty member)

Endowment Title: The Dean's Silver Anniversary Scholarship for Physician Assistant Studies

Purpose: Scholarship support for full-time senior students in the School of Health Professions who are receiving either baccalaureate or graduate degrees and are members of the UTMB Chapter of Alpha Eta Society.

Endowment Title: Robert K. Bing Occupational Therapy Scholars Program

Criteria: • Evidence of service provided to the community, schools, churches, professional organizations, and other groups over the past 10 years • Evidence of leadership activities within the OT department, SHP, UTMB, in the community, and professional organizations over the past 10 years • Evidence of high standards of scholarship and professionalism To promote scholarship and ease the financial burden of professional education and to honor Dr. Robert K. Bing, first dean of the UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences. Students must have (a) minimum 3.0 GPA in the OT program; (b) no course grades less than "C"; (c) no period of either academic or non-academic probation during enrollment in the SHP; (d) be a member in good standing in the Student Occupational Therapy Association, and the Texas Occupational Therapy Association or the American Occupational Therapy Association. 
Purpose: To promote scholarship and ease the financial burden of professional education and to honor Dr. Robert K. Bing, first dean of the UTMB School of Allied Health Sciences.

Endowment Title: Beatrice Brotzman Endowed Presidential Scholarship

Criteria: The recipient shall: 1. Be in academic good standing 2. Have an interest in continuing in the clinical laboratory profession 3. Be enrolled or enrolling in the CLS program, with preference given to a student enrolled in distance education. 4. Financial need is considered but not required for this award 
Purpose: This award was established in 2005 by Ruth Morris to create an endowed presidential scholarship to provide support in the CLS distance education program. Ruth Morris is a professor emerita and first chair of the CLS department. 
Amount: $1,000

Criteria: • Nominees shall be students in good standing in their SHP program. • Nominees should have a reasonable expectation of graduation within the year of the award. • Nominees should have demonstrated exemplary creativity, energy, and humanity in a manner that brings credit to the school and the student’s chosen profession. This demonstration may include INDS participation above and beyond minimal expectations . . and/or leadership within INDS curriculum 
Purpose: This is an annual award presented to a student in their final year whose actions reflect creativity, energy, and humanity in a manner that brings credit to the school and the student’s chosen profession.  
Amount: $1,000

Endowment Title: Harry and Joanne Davis Scholarship in Physician Assistant Studies

Purpose: To provide scholarship support for two or more students enrolled in the Physicans Assistant Program in the School of Health Professions. Preference will be given to students with primary residence in Texas.

Endowment Title: The Ruby Decker Endowed Scholarship in Physical Therapy

Criteria: Criteria: To be eligible for this award the student must have been in good academic standing (GPA at least 3.0, appropriate participation in INDS activities) throughout his/her MPT studies and exhibit the characteristics that follow: 1. Scholarship - evidence of the student’s enthusiasm for learning is demonstrated by active class participation in lecture and lab, a positive attitude towards studies, and a willingness to seek out new and related information to widen the student’s base of knowledge. 2. Spirit - evidence of a significant contribution to the school or class. The student deserving of this award is one that naturally motivates, encourages, or leads the class through words, deeds or a willingness to put the interests of others at the forefront. 3. Service - evidence of active membership in professional organizations, committees, community or school related groups for the purpose of contributing to the mission and function of that organization. 4. Performance - evidence of high standards of professional performance in clinical work with an active pursuit of clinical knowledge. 
Purpose: This scholarship was created to honor the first PT Department Chair at UTMB SAHS. This award is presented anually to the 2nd or 3rd year MPT student who best exemplifies the spirit, enthusiasm, and quest for knowledge typical of Ruby Decker. 
Amount: $1,000 

Endowment Title: Kay Hill Delgado Scholarship in Physical Therapy

Criteria: The recipient must be a student in academic good standing (GPA at least 3.0, appropriate participation in IDEAL activities) in the second year of the Physical Therapy curriculum. Preference will be given to students with an interest in acute care. 
Purpose: This scholarship award was established in 2008 to honor Kay Hill Delgado, an alumnus of UTMB Physical Therapy, class of 1965.

Endowment Title: The Edgar and Grace Gnitzinger Endowed Scholarship Fund

Criteria: Specific criteria are: 1. The student must either be a full time student in academic good standing or an incoming student currently accepted into a SHP program. The student must present an outstanding record for experience with geriatric medicine, geriatric wellness or for community service with older adults. 2. The student must submit an essay addressing the following topics. • How have your personal experiences with older adults shaped your attitude toward geriatric medicine as it relates to your profession? • How can your discipline enhance the quality of life and health care for older people and improve potential outcomes within this patient population? • What activities in the past or present have you been involved with that demonstrate your commitment to serving the geriatric population? (Briefly describe these activities.) • What are your long term goals and how do they relate to geriatric health care? 3. The Faculty within each Dept. will evaluate the essay on content, quality and how it responds to the above questions. 
Purpose: Scholarship support for students committed to the practice of geriatric medicine and enrolled in or accepted in the School of Health Professions. 
Amount: $1,000 

Endowment Title: SHP Student Honor Award

Criteria: 1. The student must rank academically in the top 5 % of his or her class. 2. Must be scheduled to complete all requirements for graduation as confirmed by a University registrar. 3. Must have completed at least 30 credit hours at UTMB SHP as of September 1 prior to graduation as confirmed by a University transcript. 4. Must be able to demonstrate both academic and co-curricular/community achievements, as confirmed by the application and any supporting materials submitted. 
Purpose: Recognizes the graduating student who has made significant contributions to his or her peers, the school, the university and the community through school and community participation, professional involvement and responsibility, and scholarship. 
Amount: $0 

Endowment Title: The Thomas N. and Gleaves T. James Scholarship Endowment

Purpose: This scholarship will be awarded to a student in good standing who demonstrates financial need and academic promise. Preference shall be given to those students with an appreciation for and commitment to community service. 
Amount: The Amount is Equal to the Payment of Tuition and Tuition Related fees for one full year (not to exceed the maximum in state tuition rate for the State of Texas).

Other criteria: Students with special or financial need or students from a disadvantaged background will also be considered for this award. 
Purpose: To provide scholarship support to full-time junior students enrolled in the School of Health Professions, based on academic merit, financial need, and demonstrated leadership.

Endowment Title: The Dr. Diane Lisa Sunshine Leonard Scholarship

Criteria: Specific criteria are: 1. That the student demonstrates financial need or other educational disadvantage. 2. That the student demonstrates an interest in or experience with research. This could include undergraduate honor work or presentations at scientific meetings. 3. That the student demonstrates excellence in overall Grade Point Average for Basic Science classes. As each curriculum differs, each department will specify what that program considers the “basic sciences”. 4. That the student demonstrates leadership/participation in student government or other UTMB student organization. 5. That the student demonstrates participation in community or professional service. 
Purpose: This endowed scholarship is intended to honor Diane Lisa Leonard, a former faculty of the UTMB-SAHS, through the provision of one to two $1000 scholarships per year to students who excel academically. 
Amount: $1,000

Purpose: To be awarded annually to a student in the PA program and an award to a student in the CLS program. The primary factors considered for the award are academic excellence while attending the UTMB School of Health Professions.

Purpose: To be used to award a scholarship to a student continuing their medical education in Occupational Therapy with financial need and a with a preference given to a single or married parent.

Purpose: To provide scholarships to full-time, junior Respiratory Care students enrolled at the UTMB School of Health Professions.

Endowment Title: The University of Texas Medical Branch Retirees Association Academic Scholarship Fund

Department: Rotating/Shared Scholarships

Criteria: 1). Student exhibits academic achievement above that of the average SHP student. 2). Student demonstrates financial need. 
Purpose: Scholarship support for academically qualified students who attend one of the four schools at the U.T. Medical Branch - Galveston. The award will rotate among the schools.

Purpose: To be used for the benefit of students interested in gerontology and health promotion and enrolled in the School of Health Professions.

Endowment Title: Schapper Endowment for the Study of Spine Rehabilitation

The recipient will be that student who excels in Orthopedics and specifically shows great skill with treatment for patients with spinal dysfunction. OR 1. The recipient will be a student who develops and implements creative research designed to improve Spine rehabilitation. 
Purpose: This is an endowment was created to award a physical therapy student who shows interest and promise in the field of spine rehabilitation or to support research designed to improve the rehabilitation of patients with spinal impairment.

Criteria: • The applicant must demonstrate academic excellence with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher on courses taken at UTMB and no grade lower than a “C”. • The applicant must not have been on probation or suspension while attending the School of Health Professions. 
Purpose: This is a merit award that recognizes an occupational therapy student on the basis of a letter of application and an original essay on the value of occupational therapy in the treatment of chronic disability or illness.

Endowment Title: Elizabeth Collins Thomas Scholarship in Occupational Therapy

Criteria: For the purposes of this fund, an emergency is defined as an unforeseen event or combination of circumstances that calls for immediate action for the student to remain in school. Funds may be provided for such expenses as books and tools/supplies related to course work, minor auto repairs, fuel, tires, food, and emergency rent assistance. Except in rare cases, awards will not exceed $250 and students will be awarded no more than one request per their tenure in the program. This policy helps to ensure that a maximum number of students can receive assistance. All awards will be subject to confirmation of need and availability of funds. 
Purpose: The faculty in Occupational Therapy Department, with the approval and collaboration of the Dean of the School of Health Professions establish the criteria and award scholarships to as great a number of students as practical.

Endowment Title: Texas Society of Allied Health Professions (TSAHP)

Criteria: The students must be attending a university that is an academic institution member of TSAHP and members of their professional associations. 2. The student must have completed 24 hours (or 50%) of their professional program. (Students may be full or part time). 3. Students must have a GPA or at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be in academic good standing (GPA at least 3.0, appropriate participation in INDS activities). 4. Students must demonstrate the highest level of service to their health professions and the community. 
Purpose: The Texas Society of Allied Health Professions awards these scholarships to allied health students across Texas who excel in service and academics and who exhibit the greatest potential as a future health professional. 
Amount: $300 

Endowment Title: University Federal Credit Unions Endowed Scholarship honoring Edith Camellia St. John

Purpose: Established by the University Federal Credit Union honoring Edith Camellia St. John. This scholarship award was established to benefit a School of Health Professions student pursuing his/her education in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Criteria: 1). a student in academic good standing (GPA at least 3.0, appropriate participation in INDS activities) and who demonstrates academic promise. 2) a student who participates in the learning, service and professional experiences available at this university. 3). Preference may be given to those students who demonstrate financial need, students who are non-traditional (for example, parent of a dependent child, pursing current program as a 2nd career, 30 years of age or older, in need of but ineligible for financial aid due to support from a spouse), or students with a current or past record of service in the US Military. 
Purpose: This award was created by the Wagners to support an SHP student in good academic standing. Brigadier General Wagner is an alumnus of the SAHS PT program and as such recognizes the importance of financial support to our students.

Endowment Title: Warm Springs Rehabilitation Cornerstone Scholarship in Occupational Therapy

Must have completed at least 30 credit hours at UTMB SHP as of September 1 prior to graduation as confirmed by a University transcript. 4. Must have and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, as confirmed by the University registrar. 5. Must be able to demonstrate both academic and co-curricular/community achievements, as confirmed by the application and any supporting materials submitted. 
Purpose: Students are selected for above-average academic standing, as well as outstanding participtation in extracurricular activites and community service. 
Amount: No Financial Award 

Endowment Title: Linda Lange Williams Memorial Scholarship

Purpose: This award was established in memory of Linda Lange Williams, a former PT student who was killed in 1986. Given to a student who depends on scholarships to support their education. 
Amount: $2000 or $2500 (verify each year)
