Student Organization for Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Article II, Section 2: To formulate academic achievement and clinical excellence in the student body of the Medical Technology curriculum remove this section
Article III, Section 2: SOCLS will insure that the elected officers will be concurrent members of the Galveston District-Society of Medical technology.  All members are however encouraged to join the GDSMT Remove this section
Article III. Section 3

Section 3:         Full membership is open to any UTMB-SHP Medical Technology student in good standing upon payment of the appropriate local fees for a calendar year.

Section 2:         Membership Categories:

a. Active member:  Membership dues is $15 for each year as a student.  Check or cash to be paid to the SOCLS Treasurer during the Fall Semester.

b. Inactive Member:  Any member who has not paid dues for that year.

Section 3:         Membership will be activated once dues are paid for that year.  

Section 4:         Honorary membership shall be encouraged of faculty members and friends of SOCLS at the discretion of the SOCLS Executive Council.

Article IV: Section 1 and 2

Section 1:         The officers of SOCLS shall consist of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and a Student Liaison to the Faculty.

Section 2:         Executive Council:  Shall be chaired by the President and composed of the Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and a Student Liaison to the Faculty.

Article IV: Section 4 and 5

Section 4:         In accordance with UTMB policy, a Faculty Sponsor shall be selected by voting membership of SOCLS at the first schedule meeting.

Section 5:         A Historian shall be appointed by the President to maintain a scrapbook of all of SOCLS events.

Article V: OFFICERS, REPRESENTATIVES, AND COMMITTEES:   SELECTION change to read: Officers, representatives and Committees:  Election Process
 

Section 1: UTMB student is defined as being one who is enrolled in School of Allied Health Sciences CLS Program

Section 2:  All candidates must be in good academic standing, shall not be on either scholastic or disciplinary probation, and currently registered.  (Any individual holding office who fails meet these standards shall resign or be removed from office.)

Section 3:         All officers and representatives shall be elected annually by SOCLS members during the November General meeting of the Fall Semester.

Section 4:         No member of the Executive Council may hold more than one office in any one year.

Selection 5: Elections

A.  All UTMB CLS students shall be eligible to vote.

B.  No student may run for more than one SOCLS position.

C.  Election Committee

1.      Shall be chaired by the President of SOCLS

2.      The President shall appoint Three SOCLS members to the Elections Committee.

3.    The Staff and Faculty Liaisons shall also be a member of the Elections Committee.

4.      Shall make provisions for nominations and shall conduct a candidate question/answer session prior to elections.

5.      Shall determine the day of elections and the time and manner for the polling, and shall publish this information a minimum of two weeks prior to the election.

            D.  Nominations

1.      Any student enrolled in the CLS program shall be eligible for nomination, providing he/she meets the qualification prescribed.

2.      Nominations shall be made by the student to be nominated.  They shall complete a nomination form available from the Staff Liaison.  The information to be included shall be the student's name, classification, the office being sought, address, phone number, and signature.

3.   The eligibility of each nominee shall be determined by the Elections Committee.

            E.  Post Nomination

1.      All nominees for the Executive Committee shall be required to attend a question/answer period prior to the election.  The time and place shall be designated by the Elections Committee and the nominees notified at least two weeks in advance.

2.    Ballot placement will be determined by order of nomination..

3.    All nominees shall be informed of their Duty of Office

F.  Election Procedures

1.   The election shall be conducted and the ballots counted by the Elections Committee.

2.    If no candidate receives a simple majority vote, a run-off election shall be held between the first and second place candidates. 

3.   Results will be posted by the Election Committee within 48 hours of the first election.

4.   Any run-off election will be held no less than three days and no more than seven days after the first election.

5.   The Elections Committee shall set a limit as to how much each candidate will be allowed to spend in connection with the election.

            G.  Contesting Elections

1.   To contest an election, a letter must be submitted to the Elections Committee within 48 hours after posting of elections results.

2.   Decisions concerning the contested elections are up to the Election Committee that staged the election.  The Committee shall meet within 72 hours of the filing of the complaint, and 2/3 vote of the entire committee is required to accept or reject the complaint.  THE DECISION OF THE ELECTIONS COMMITTEE IS FINAL.

3.   If the complaint is upheld, a new election will be scheduled within ten days of the decision.  The same rules, regulations, and Election Committee apply to the re-run as to the previous election

Section 6 Elected officers, representatives, and committees members shall assume their office and responsibilities at the start of the Spring Semester.

Section 7:       A special election will be called in the event that an office is vacated

 

Article VI: Section 1 part e deleted  deleted that the president must be a member of the senior class and added that the president is back up for the Treasurer
Article VI: Section 2 added Added Student Liaison to Faculty and Team Ideal
Article VI: Section 3 added Secretary must keep active Roster of students
Article VI: section 4 added Treasurer must have Faculty or Staff signature on all checks
Article VI: Removed Student Liaison and changed to Historian Historian now an elected position
Added section 6 - Parliamentarian is now an elected position

Section 6:         Parliamentarian of SOCLS shall:

a.        Act as consultant to the President.

b.        Ensure that meetings follow Parliamentary procedures while maintaining the focus of the meeting on the issues.

c.  Maintain order during meetings

d. Maintain By-Laws of SOCLS
