Section
1: UTMB student is defined as being one who is enrolled in School of
Allied Health Sciences CLS Program
Section 2: All
candidates must be in good academic standing, shall not be on either
scholastic or disciplinary probation, and currently registered.
(Any individual holding office who fails meet these standards shall
resign or be removed from office.)
Section 3:
All officers and representatives shall be elected annually by SOCLS
members during the November General meeting of the Fall Semester.
Section 4:
No member of the Executive Council may hold more than one office in
any one year.
Selection 5: Elections
A. All UTMB CLS
students shall be eligible to vote.
B. No student may
run for more than one SOCLS position.
C. Election
Committee
1.
Shall be chaired by the President of SOCLS
2.
The President shall
appoint Three SOCLS members to the Elections Committee.
3. The
Staff and Faculty Liaisons shall also be a member of the Elections
Committee.
4.
Shall make
provisions for nominations and shall conduct a candidate
question/answer session prior to elections.
5.
Shall determine the
day of elections and the time and manner for the polling, and shall
publish this information a minimum of two weeks prior to the
election.
D. Nominations
1.
Any student enrolled
in the CLS program shall be eligible for nomination, providing
he/she meets the qualification prescribed.
2.
Nominations shall be
made by the student to be nominated. They shall complete a
nomination form available from the Staff Liaison. The information
to be included shall be the student's name, classification, the
office being sought, address, phone number, and signature.
3. The
eligibility of each nominee shall be determined by the Elections
Committee.
E. Post Nomination
1.
All nominees for the
Executive Committee shall be required to attend a question/answer
period prior to the election. The time and place shall be
designated by the Elections Committee and the nominees notified at
least two weeks in advance.
2. Ballot
placement will be determined by order of nomination..
3. All
nominees shall be informed of their Duty of Office
F. Election
Procedures
1. The
election shall be conducted and the ballots counted by the Elections
Committee.
2. If
no candidate receives a simple majority vote, a run-off election
shall be held between the first and second place candidates.
3. Results
will be posted by the Election Committee within 48 hours of the
first election.
4. Any
run-off election will be held no less than three days and no more
than seven days after the first election.
5. The
Elections Committee shall set a limit as to how much each candidate
will be allowed to spend in connection with the election.
G. Contesting Elections
1. To
contest an election, a letter must be submitted to the Elections
Committee within 48 hours after posting of elections results.
2. Decisions
concerning the contested elections are up to the Election Committee
that staged the election. The Committee shall meet within 72 hours
of the filing of the complaint, and 2/3 vote of the entire committee
is required to accept or reject the complaint. THE DECISION OF THE
ELECTIONS COMMITTEE IS FINAL.
3. If
the complaint is upheld, a new election will be scheduled within ten
days of the decision. The same rules, regulations, and Election
Committee apply to the re-run as to the previous election
Section 6 Elected officers,
representatives, and committees members shall assume their office
and responsibilities at the start of the Spring Semester.
Section 7: A
special election will be called in the event that an office is
vacated |
