Graduate Information

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!

As an upcoming graduate, here’s what you need to know - and do - to assure an enjoyable, glitch-free commencement day.

The School of Health Professions students DO NOT apply for graduation. Graduating students are identified by your department. Contact your department faculty advisor to ensure you have been added to the graduate list for the semester in which you have completed your program. Certificate students are not eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Graduate Checklist

  1. Diploma Name Entry: As mentioned, you do not need to apply for graduation; however, you must complete the diploma name entry using the following steps:
    • Login to the MySTAR portal
    • Under the Personal Information section of your Student Center main page click the Names link
    • Click the Add a New Name green button
    • In the Name drop down, select Diploma
    • Leave prefix blank
    • Complete first, middle, and last names - these names must be part of your student record name.
    • Click the Save green button
  2. Address Updates: Be sure to update all your contact information in mySTAR for Enrollment Services (include your correct address and a permanent / alternate email address).
  3. Order Academic Attire & Announcements: Rental regalia, diploma frames and announcements are available through the UTMB Campus Store. Note: Rental regalia is included in the Graduation Fee in your SHP Student Tuition and Fee. Each graduate is welcome to keep the Cap/Tam & Tassel as a souvenir at no additional charge. Please note however, DPT students pay for souvenir tam and teal tassel that they keep. There are optional selections for souvenir tassels and other items. Please unclick/uncheck if you do not wish to purchase or you will be charged for these items.

    All rental regalia (gowns and hoods) must be returned immediately following the commencement ceremony. Upon returning your regalia, you will receive your diploma with proper ID (student ID or driver's license).

    Important Note: SHP Regalia Orders may be placed starting May 16th, 2017

  4. Regalia Pick Up: : All rental apparel will be pressed and delivered to the UTMB Bookstore.Students can plan to pick up their regalia orders from the UTMB Bookstore the week leading up to commencement. The exact date and time of delivery will be announced at a later date contained in an email announcement. Once delivered, regalia will be kept at the UTMB Bookstore for you to pick up at your convenience until 11am the day before Commencement. All orders not picked up by this time will be taken to the Commencement site and available for distribution at Moody Gardens after rehearsal Friday morning.

    Note: Be VERY careful if you decide to iron your gown as it will melt if the iron is too hot!

  5. Decorating Cap and/or Gowns: It is the policy of the Office of Academic & Student Affairs to prohibit Commencement participants from decorating their caps and gowns or wearing any accessories that are not an official element of the academic regalia as it detracts from the dignity of the ceremony. Academic Honor cords and medallions may be worn because they are official.
  6. Compliance Training: It is important to note that students must be up to date on all required compliance training. Failure to do so could prevent you from being cleared for graduation and participation in commencement. Students who are participating in graduating early will have to complete their compliance training again after September 1st, as per University requirements.
