Description:The applicant will be given the opportunity to:
  • recognize and correlate significant features and processes related to formation, function, and morphology of the blood’s normal cellular elements
  • recognize and correlate of the basic components of coagulation/hemostasis including their source, basic structure and function
  • recognize abnormal hematologic / coagulation test results and determine whether the findings are more commonly associated with general disease processes versus hematologic / hemostatic disorders
  • utilize routine quality assurance guides to identify abnormal hematologic results and correlate these with potential causes or sources of error
Prerequisites:MLT or MT standing OR permission of the instructor.
Contact Hours:The applicant may earn 30 continuing education contact hours. The University of Texas Medical Branch, Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences through the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® program.
Fifteen two-hour, on-line lessons will be offered over the fall semester of each year.
