CLLS 6325

Advanced Microbiology / Mycology

The student will be given the opportunity to demonstrate: 1) skills in advanced techniques for detection, isolation, identification, and determination of susceptibility of pathogenic, high-virulence, and fastidious organisms; 2) skills in analysis and problem-solving related to techniques necessary to assure the accuracy and validity of test results; 3) ability to determine possible pathogens and normal flora according to the body site from which the specimen was obtained; 4) identify clinically significant fungi and yeasts; 5) perform procedures and techniques used for their identification; and 6) the correlation of laboratory findings with the patient’s clinical signs and symptoms using graduate-level case studies. (30 lecture hours and 45 lab hours per enrollment period) Prerequisite: CLLS 5405 Intermediate Pathogenic Microbiology
