The Class Mentor Tradition

One unique tradition in the Department of Occupational Therapy, the School of Health Professions, the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, is that of naming an honorary class mentor for each graduating class of new occupational therapists. Chosen by vote of the faculty, mentors are distinguished occupational therapists from this country who have made significant contributions to the profession.Swans

Honorary class mentors are invited to campus to meet with students before the class leaves to complete fieldwork requirements. Time is provided for the students and their mentor to discuss issues in occupational therapy practice and generally get to know one another.

Because class mentors have made widely recognized contributions to the field, they are individuals of great professional stature. Bringing them to campus offers students, faculty members, and local clinicians the unique opportunity to benefit from the personal contributions that they inevitably bring. The Department of Occupational Therapy is proud of this tradition, unique among occupational therapy programs nationwide.
