Mrs. Slayten, MS, MLS(ASCP)SBBcm is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences in the School of Health Professions (SHP) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).
Mrs. Slayten received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgetown College, a certification as a Medical Technologist from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Science in Blood Transfusion Medicine from the University of Cincinnati, and a Specialist in Blood Banking certificate from the Hoxworth Blood Center and University of Cincinnati.
Mrs. Slayten has clinical experience in the immunohematology reference lab (IRL), blood bank/blood center, and transfusion service as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Supervisor, Manager and a Coordinator of Quality and Analytics. Mrs. Slayten is active in the field of transfusion participating as a CAP and AABB assessor, state and national blood bank committee member, and educator for state and national blood banking and laboratory meetings. She currently teaches MSHP students and graduate students in the CLS and SBB programs.
