Department of Physical Therapy Announces New Hybrid DPT Program

May 3, 2021, 15:18 PM by UTMB School of Health Professions

The Department of Physical Therapy is excited to announce that they have been granted approval to add a new Hybrid DPT program to our Accredited programs by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Interviews for the inaugural class begin in December whereas the very first cohort will begin in August 2021.

The School of Health Profession's prestigious PT program dates back to the early 1940's as the first PT program west of the Mississippi. The Department of Physical Therapy also have one of only two PTA to DPT Bridge programs in the nation. Now, join us in celebrating this momentous and historical achievement as we seek to lead PT education into the future. This will be one of the first public school hybrid DPT programs in the state and few in the country!

SHP is thrilled to bring the Hybrid DPT program to rural and underserved areas while offering a comparatively affordable education. The program faculty is excited to meet the future graduates of this program who will be a collective group of diverse individuals that will bring APTA's vision statement of "transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience" to people all around the country and the world.

For those interested in learning more about the program, visit the Physical Therapy Hybrid DPT web page, attend an Open House, or email your questions! Applications will be open from July-November every year for an annual August enrollment, alongside the Residential DPT Program.

Congratulations to the Department, the School of Health Professions, and the University of Texas Medical Branch!
