Physical therapists play key rehab role

Physical therapy, one of the fastest-growing occupations in the country, is gaining demand thanks to an aging population that is much more active than previous generations. While they suffer the same ailments and setbacks as those before them, baby boomers are able to heal and return to their activities more quickly with the assistance of physical therapists, or PTs. "There's lots of diversity with patients and work environments - the possibilities are endless," said Laurie Farroni, doctor of physical therapy with UTMB's early childhood intervention. "It's a competitive process to get into physical therapy school," said Dana Wild, assistant professor in the department of physical therapy at UTMB.
