Dr. Chris Fry Receives APS New Investigator Award

Dr. Christopher Fry

Congratulations to Dr. Christopher Fry, Assistant Professor in the UTMB SHP Nutrition and Metabolism department. In April, Dr. Fry will be presented the 2017 New Investigator Award during the Experimental Biology Meeting in Chicago, IL from the American Physiological Society Section on Environmental & Exercise Physiology.

The award recognizes an outstanding investigator in the early stages of his/her career who has made meritorious contributions to the areas of environmental, exercise, thermal, or applied physiology.

Dr. Fry's research explores the pathways and mechanisms involved in regulating skeletal muscle plasticity. His lab utilizes several different experimental models, including cell culture, rodent models as well as muscle samples from clinical studies. Recent projects have focused on the role of skeletal muscle stem cells, satellite cells, in the hypertrophic response of muscle to increased load. These studies have employed the use of novel transgenic mouse strains in addition to muscle precursor cell in vitro experiments.
