Clinical interests have centered on the physical functioning of older adult clinical populations - and how physical functioning in this context relates to important outcomes.

Biography

Steven R. Fisher, PhD, PT, GCS, is a Professor (tenure) in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences (PTRS) in the School of Health Professions (SHP) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Dr. Fisher received his Master of Physical Therapy from Texas Tech University and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr. Fisher also has a clinical specialist certification in Geriatric Physical Therapy.

He is a Fellow of the Sealy Center on Aging at UTMB and is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Acute Care Section, American Physical Therapy Association, and Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA).

    • Study: Identifying Therapeutic Targets of Accelerated Sarcopenia
    • Source: National Institutes of Health (NIH)
    • Objective: The goal of this project is to identify the mechanisms that can accelerate loss of muscle size, strength and physical function in type 2 diabetes and with hospitalization in older persons.
    • Role: Co-Investigator and supervising physical therapist (5% effort)
