The Office of the Dean provides leadership for the School of Health Professions and is responsible for preparing and administering the budget, developing and maintaining good relationships with students, faculty, staff, and alumni, fostering professionalism, belonging, and a positive work/learning environment in the school.

Welcome from the Dean of the School of Health Professions

David Brown

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I am delighted to welcome you to the School of Health Professions (SHP) at the University of Texas Medical Branch. We welcome you into an academic environment that values education, research and innovation, service to the community, patient care, and inclusivity in the pursuit of giving you the opportunity to make lasting contributions to healthcare. We look forward to your contributions to the varied perspectives and unique backgrounds that each student brings to our learning community.

Our interprofessional learning environment is composed of the Departments of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition and Metabolism, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Care, and the PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences. We are truly excited to be moving forward as a unified team of health care professionals to assure the quality of our educational programs.

You will find dedicated and skilled faculty ready to work with you, to share their expertise, and offer you state-of-the-art learning experiences using innovative technology and teaching methods. These faculty will provide you with opportunities to stretch your own professional boundaries and help you gain a broad perspective of your own role on the healthcare team while working with students from other disciplines, including those in the School of Nursing, School of Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
