Introduction To Capstone
The American Occupational Therapy Association requires Level I, Level II, and Capstone Experiential fieldwork as part of an accredited occupational therapy program. Also students may be required by some facilities to undergo a criminal background check before interning at their sites. The experiential capstone experience is the culmination of the didactic work and clinical experience of the occupational therapy doctoral student. Each student has an opportunity to create a program or project based on the needs of the community, clinical, academic, research, or institutional sites including local, state, and national governments. As the capstone is meant to create the future leaders of our profession, we help students create innovative and sustainable projects that benefit the clients, the site, and the community.
