Biography

Kyra Gainous, OTD, OTR is an Assistant Professor of Instruction and Level I Fieldwork Coordinator in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). She received her Bachelor of Science from Florida A&M University and her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Gannon University in Ruskin, Florida.

Dr. Gainous’ has clinical experience providing individualized and evidence based pediatric occupational therapy in a variety of settings to include the clinic, home, community, school and virtual settings. She has clinical experience providing occupational therapy services to the adult and geriatric population in skilled nursing facilities and memory care units.

Dr. Gainous has completed research on the The Perceived Benefit of Occupation Based Education Groups on Decreasing Caregiver Burden and Bridging the Gap Between Academic and Clinical Practice, A Possible Solution to the Hand Therapy Fieldwork Shortage.
