IMPACT Lab: Delivering Value-Based Care through Integrated Systems and Patient-Centered Outcome Research

Lab Overview

Dr. Li's IMPACT Lab incorporates three major themes:

  1. Value-Based Care: Focuses on delivering the best possible care while keeping expenses to a minimum
  2. Precision Medicine: Deliver the right care to the right patient at the right time
  3. Learning Health System: Improve care by continuously collecting and analyzing data from real-world healthcare settings to inform clinical decision-making, care practices, and policies.

General Lab Description

The overarching goal of this lab is to develop a comprehensive research portfolio dedicated to health services research within the field of post-acute rehabilitation. This broad, interdisciplinary area explores various aspects of healthcare, including quality of care, processes, accessibility, costs, and the outcomes experienced by patients as a result.

Dr. Li’s lab is particularly focused on using large administrative data such as Medicare claims and electronic health records like TriNetX to conduct comparative effectiveness research and determine the best way to enhance healthcare process. Dr. Li's lab focuses on integrating data-driven evidence with patient involvement to guide clinical decision making. The insights gained from Dr. Li's lab have a strong potential to inform clinical practice and healthcare policymaking decisions.

Research Activities for Prospective Students

Students will have the chance to engage in health services research that focuses on improving clinical practices, increasing patient involvement, and advancing the quality of the healthcare system. Students will participate in 1:1 mentoring or group mentoring to learn specific skills in the areas of empirical studies using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods and/or scoping and systematic reviews.
